OTHER PROJECTS: BEYOND THE STAGE

At Tiny Dancer, we do more than create performances. We develop projects and activities with an artistic foundation that seamlessly integrate into a variety of settings. We are deeply invested in how artistic processes and methods can drive meaningful change in our society. We believe in expanding and challenging our physical and sensory abilities in new ways.

Through collaborations with municipalities, schools, early childhood centers, cultural institutions, and fellow artists, we have developed a wide range of projects tailored to different audiences and contexts. With extensive experience and expertise, we bring dance to life in ways where participation and co-creation are essential elements.

KUMULT, A cultural initiative for children

KUMULT!

Tiny Dancer is proud to be part of Kumult!, a cultural initiative for children in Kulturregion Midt- og Vestsjælland. As part of this program, our dancers engage in the region’s early childhood education initiatives, bringing the joy of dance and movement into young lives. By introducing dance as a means of communication and self-discovery, we help children develop confidence, body awareness, and a deeper appreciation for the arts.

Each year, children in Kumult! participate in a cultural program led by professional artists, where they not only experience art and culture but also express themselves creatively. This ensures that throughout their early childhood and school years, children in the region continue to develop and strengthen their creative competencies through meaningful artistic encounters.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: GRO

The GRO artist-in-residence project is an interdisciplinary initiative developed in collaboration with Kalundborg Municipality and piloted with four early childhood education centers. The project consists of laboratory-style workshops designed for infants, preschool children, and their caregivers, where three different artists from distinct disciplines guide participants through creative explorations of the theme GRO.

Exploring Growth Through Art

GRO is about experiencing what it means to grow, to grow up, to grow together, and sometimes to grow apart, especially in relation to nature. Three artists, a textile designer, a singer, and a dancer lead separate workshops, allowing children to engage in creative exploration through different artistic expressions.

UNIQUE WORKSHOP EXPERIENCES

Workshop 1: In Nature

The first phase takes place outdoors, where children and adults collect leaves and flowers. Over an open fire, they imprint nature’s textures onto various fabrics. They explore how to use their bodies to sense and interact with nature and its elements in new ways.

Workshop 2: In the Institution

The second phase happens in the early childhood center, where the singer and dancer lead interactive workshops. Children experiment with voice and song to express emotions and sensations. They also move and dance, embodying the feeling of a leaf playfully caught in the wind.

Workshop 3: At the Music School

In the final phase, children visit the music school, where all three artists have created a multi-sensory artistic space. Here, they experience a universe that integrates elements from all previous workshops: music, movement, and textiles, while also exploring new creative activities.

A Model for Future Artistic Projects

GRO is just one example of what an artist-in-residence project can look like. At Tiny Dancer, we have developed and tested many other projects in both schools and early childhood education centers, each uniquely tailored to foster creativity and artistic engagement.

THE YOUTH COMPANY

Mette and Tiny Dancer have a vision: to create a dance community for young people—a space where they can come together to dance, create performances, and be part of an artistic collective that values technique, creativity, and choreography.

A Passion for Working with Young Dancers

Mette’s dedication to working with young dancers has been a driving force throughout her career. She has a unique ability to inspire and challenge young people who want to explore and develop within the art of dance. With extensive teaching experience, she has led numerous dance projects in schools and has played a key role in Dansebryggeriet, an artistic leadership program in Copenhagen. Over three years, she helped design, teach, and organize full dance seasons for young dancers.

Among her many projects, she created the performance: Static Equilibrium at Dansebryggeriet, which was invited to festivals in Denmark, Sweden, and Australia.

Tiny Dancer Youth Company provides:

An artistic community where diversity is in the core,
Activities that balance technique and creativity,
Co-creation as a core method for developing choreographic material,
A safe and inclusive environment where dancers feel free to express themselves,
Project-based activities centered around productions, performances, and public presentations.

Tiny Dancer’s youth company is a space where young dancers not only learn and grow but also contribute to shaping the artistic experience.
